Raster ("array") data occur in various dimensions, be they observed phenomena or generated data sets, e.g., satellite imagery and mapping, geo physics and exploration, document management, medical imagery, engineering data, and statistics data. They all have in common extreme volumes, often Giga- to Petabyte per single object.

Welcome, Visitor!

you have entered my academic site.

If you care about large-scale raster ("array") databases for sensor, image, and statistics data then you may want to look at my profile. My main research interest is on flexible, efficient raster services for massive, mult-dimensional earth, space, and life science data.

As Professor of Computer Science I am heading the L-SIS group being part of the Center for Advanced Systems Engineering at Jacobs University Bremen (formerly: International University Bremen).

In our research we have developed the rasdaman array DBMS which we are continuously extending. As part of our geo service standardization work, we have contributed several adopted standards, such as the Web Coverage Service (WCS) 2.0 and the Web Coverage Processing Service (WCPS) Language. In teaching, a goal of prime importance is to make students fit for success in industry and science.

Virtually yours,
